Ping Your iPhone
The afternoon is over, and Billie and Aaron are home from school. Aaron walks through the house, puts his book bag down, grabs a snack, and sits on the couch to watch some TV. He reaches into his pocket to check his phone and he realizes that it isn't there. Glancing at his watch, he sees that it is still connected to his iPhone, so it has to be somewhere in the house (Aaron has his phone automatically connect to the family's Wi-Fi).
Normally Aaron would retrace his steps and tear the house apart looking for his phone, but thanks to his parents the solution is right there on his wrist: his Apple Watch. Apple Watch can be used to cause the paired iPhone to make a repeated beeping so you can track it down.
To "ping" your iPhone from your Apple Watch:
- Swipe up on the clock face to access your glances.
-
Swipe left until you're at the first glance: Settings (Figure 4.113). If the top of the glance says Connected in green with an iPhone icon, you can ping your iPhone.
Figure 4.113 The Settings glance is home to the Ping iPhone button.
- Tap the bottom button with the icon of the iPhone making noise in it.
-
Your iPhone will make a noise, just once. Tap the Ping iPhone button to make the phone ping again and again until you locate it.
If you tap and hold the Ping iPhone button down, it'll continue to ping as you look for it, and the iPhone's flash will go on and off. This is a big help if the iPhone has fallen under the couch or you're looking for it in a dark room. Just find the flashing light.
